The causes of this social phenomenon are widespread, but no one indicator explains why the rate of single parenting continues to increase. Single parenting creates a culture that is quite unlike the traditional view of home and its connotations of parenthood.
The job of being a parent is as challenging as it is rewarding. Motherhood and fatherhood are positions that last forever. This post is further complicated as the parent and child age. Parenthood is particularly challenging for those who raise their children without the assistance of a partner. Yet, although single parenting can be daunting, it is still a quite manageable task.
Single parents should feel unashamed by their circumstance. For some, single parenting is an intentional decision, fostered by adoption, reproductive technologies, wedlock, divorce or separation. Other single parents have no recourse, as they may be widows.
In the family unit, children are nurtured, introduced to social norms and prepared for adulthood. Remember that the only parent a child needs is a parent who loves them. If you can love your child and provide for that developing human being emotionally and financially, you will do a wonderful job.
Teen ParentsUnlike the days of yore teen parents aren’t that uncommon, and more and more these days you will see young teenaged ..... Remember to raise your child in an atmosphere of unwavering love, respect and trust. Respect your former partner as 50% of your child. When possible, minimize any negative energy regarding the missing parent. Do not place your child in a position, unconsciously or consciously, to choose between parents.
Single parenting mandates that parents take command of discipline of the child at all times. This is a challenge, since the burden of how to discipline the child is the sole responsibility of one person. To discipline your child, remember to establish and enforce limits. Try to avoid bouts of inconsistency. Discipline your child in an atmosphere of respect and education.
Never discipline your child in a fit of anger and frustration. This weakens trust and demonstrates the wrong tone regarding the purpose of discipline. Discipline should reinforce acceptable standards of behavior. It should educate a child on what is and is not acceptable in and outside of your home.
